The Victoria Memorial's white marble dome and Howrah Bridge — the longest cable-stayed bridge in India, completed in 1992 — anchor the city's skyline, while Dakshineswar Kali Temple and neighbouring Belur Math, headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission founded by Swami Vivekananda, anchor its spiritual life.
This 4-day itinerary moves at a genuinely unhurried pace — proper time for College Street's secondhand bookshops, an evening on Park Street, and the less-obvious corners (Kumartuli's clay-idol workshops, the Marble Palace) that reward travellers willing to look past the headline sights.

Namaste! Welcome to Kolkata, the cultural capital of India. On arrival at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, meet our representative and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, visit the Victoria Memorial, a white marble monument built in memory of Queen Victoria, set within manicured gardens, alongside the nearby Maidan and St. Paul's Cathedral. In the evening, stroll Park Street, Kolkata's historic restaurant and nightlife district.
After breakfast, visit Dakshineswar Kali Temple on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, followed by Belur Math just across the water — the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda, its architecture deliberately blending Hindu, Islamic, and Christian motifs to reflect a message of religious unity. In the evening, take a ferry across the Hooghly for a river-level view of Howrah Bridge — the longest cable-stayed bridge in India, completed in 1992 — as it lights up after dark.
After breakfast, visit College Street, Asia's largest secondhand book market, and stop at the Indian Coffee House, a historic meeting place for Kolkata's writers and intellectuals since the 1940s. Continue to Kumartuli, the potters' quarter where artisans hand-sculpt clay idols for Durga Puja and other festivals using techniques passed down through generations. In the afternoon, visit the Indian Museum, founded in 1814 and the oldest and largest museum in India, followed by shopping at New Market.
A relaxed final morning — optional visits to Kalighat Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, or the Marble Palace, a 19th-century mansion housing an eclectic private art collection. Check out and transfer to the airport for your onward flight. Tour concludes.

Durga Puja (typically September-October) transforms the city almost beyond recognition — elaborate pandals, all-night crowds, and a genuinely unique atmosphere — though it's also the most crowded and highest-demand time to visit. October to March otherwise offers the most comfortable weather for regular sightseeing.
