A genuinely distinctive East India circuit — Odisha's Golden Triangle of Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Konark, followed by an overnight train journey across state lines to Kolkata, closing with a day excursion to Gangasagar, the sacred point where the Ganges meets the Bay of Bengal.
The route opens with Konark's UNESCO World Heritage Sun Temple, seen en route to Puri, then spends two full nights in Puri for the Jagannath Temple and the Bay of Bengal coastline, before a return to Bhubaneswar for the Odisha capital's own temple circuit.
Rather than flying between states, this itinerary crosses from Odisha into West Bengal by overnight train — a genuinely different, distinctly Indian way to travel, arriving in Kolkata rested and ready for a full day of sightseeing rather than losing half a day to a flight and transfers.
The circuit closes with a full day excursion to Gangasagar on Sagar Island, one of India's most significant pilgrimage sites, before departure from Kolkata.

On arrival at Bhubaneswar Airport, meet our representative and drive toward Puri (approximately 65 km total, ~2 hours), stopping en route at Konark to visit the Sun Temple — a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in the 13th century in the form of a colossal stone chariot, its wheels and horses carved in extraordinary detail. Continue to Puri, and check in to your hotel, with the evening free to walk along the beach.
Morning visit to the Jagannath Temple, one of the four sacred Char Dham of Hinduism and the origin point of the annual Rath Yatra chariot festival — note that non-Hindus are not permitted inside the main temple, though the surrounding streets and the temple's exterior architecture are well worth the visit. Afterward, spend the rest of the day at Puri Beach, one of Odisha's most storied stretches of Bay of Bengal coastline, with time for a relaxed walk, swimming, or simply watching the fishing boats come in.
After breakfast, check out and drive to Bhubaneswar (approximately 65 km, ~1.5 hours), the 'Temple City' of Odisha. Spend the day exploring Bhubaneswar's Kalinga-era temple circuit, including the Lingaraj Temple, one of the oldest and largest temples in the city, and the 2,000-year-old Udayagiri and Khandagiri Jain caves. In the late evening, transfer to Bhubaneswar Railway Station to board an overnight train to Kolkata (Howrah) — a journey of approximately 7 hours, arriving early the following morning.
Arrive at Howrah Station in the early morning and transfer to your hotel for a few hours' rest and freshening up. In the afternoon, begin exploring Kolkata — the Victoria Memorial, a white marble monument set within manicured gardens, and Howrah Bridge, the longest cable-stayed bridge in India, best appreciated from an evening ferry crossing on the Hooghly River.
A very early start (typically before dawn) for a full-day excursion to Gangasagar on Sagar Island, approximately 110 km from Kolkata via Kakdwip followed by a ferry crossing. Visit the Kapil Muni Temple, at the sacred point where the Ganges meets the Bay of Bengal, and take time by the beach before making the return journey — road and ferry combined — back to Kolkata by evening. Given the genuinely long round-trip distance, this makes for a full day; those preferring a more relaxed pace can instead spend the day on further Kolkata sightseeing (Dakshineswar, Belur Math, College Street) — let us know your preference when booking.
A relaxed final morning in Kolkata — perhaps a last visit to College Street or New Market, if time allows. Check out and transfer to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport for your onward flight. Tour concludes.

If you'd rather have a more relaxed day of Kolkata sightseeing instead, we can easily swap this for a Dakshineswar-Belur Math-College Street day, or extend the trip by a night to make Gangasagar an overnight stay instead.
