Nine days that bring together every major facet of Tamil Nadu's coastal and temple heritage into a single grand circuit — this is our most complete Tamil Nadu itinerary, tracing the coast from Chennai all the way to Kovalam in Kerala, taking in every significant stop along the way.
The journey opens with Chennai's temples and colonial landmarks, followed by Mahabalipuram's UNESCO World Heritage Pallava-era rock-cut monuments, and Pondicherry's distinctive French colonial quarter and Auroville ashram.
From Pondicherry, the route turns inland and south to Madurai for two nights at the magnificent Meenakshi Amman Temple, before continuing to Rameshwaram for the eighth Jyotirlinga and the dramatic ghost town of Dhanushkodi.
The circuit's final chapters bring Kanyakumari, where three seas meet at India's southernmost point, and a concluding night at Kovalam's famous Kerala beaches near Thiruvananthapuram — nine days covering an extraordinary breadth of South India's coastal and devotional landscape.

Namaste! Welcome to Chennai. On arrival, transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy a city tour — Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Fort St. George, and Marina Beach.
After breakfast, check out and drive to Mahabalipuram (approximately 60 km, ~1.5 hours). Visit the Shore Temple, Pancha Rathas, and Arjuna's Penance — all UNESCO World Heritage Pallava-era monuments.
After breakfast, check out and drive to Pondicherry (approximately 100 km, ~2 hours). Visit Auroville Ashram and enjoy an evening rickshaw ride through the French colonial quarter.
After breakfast, check out and drive to Madurai (approximately 300 km, ~6 hours). On arrival, check in to your hotel for a two-night stay, with the evening free for independent activities.
After breakfast, a full day exploring Madurai — the Meenakshi Amman Temple, Alagar Koil Temple, Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal, and Koodal Azhagar Temple.
After breakfast, check out and drive to Rameshwaram (172 km, ~3 hours). Visit the Ramanathaswamy Temple, the eighth Jyotirlinga, and time permitting, Dhanushkodi's atmospheric ghost town.
After breakfast, check out and drive to Kanyakumari, where the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean meet. Visit the Kanyakumari Amman Temple and enjoy the sunset over the three seas.
Optional sunrise viewing at Kanyakumari. After breakfast, check out and drive to Kovalam (approximately 90 km, ~2 hours) via Thiruvananthapuram. On arrival, check in to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at Kovalam's famous crescent beaches.

April–June is hot and humid (up to 38°C+); the northeast monsoon (October–December) brings periodic heavy rain to the coast, though most temple visits and sightseeing are unaffected outside the heaviest rain days.

October to March offers the most comfortable temperatures (15–28°C) for the ghats, boat rides, and temple queues. April–June is hot on the Gangetic plain (up to 42°C); the monsoon (July–September) raises the Ganges considerably, which can affect ghat access in both cities.
The new Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir draws very large crowds, particularly on weekends and during festivals such as Ram Navami and Diwali. We schedule darshan with queue time built into the itinerary; carrying a valid photo ID is recommended, as security screening is in place at the main temple complex.
