A Jyotirlinga, a Queen's Fort & an Om-Shaped Island — All Along the Narmada
A compact 5-day circuit tracing the sacred Narmada River through three of Madhya Pradesh's most rewarding heritage stops — Ujjain's Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, Maheshwar's riverside Ahilya Fort, and Omkareshwar's Om-shaped island temple — all within comfortable driving distance of Indore.
The journey opens at Ujjain, one of Hinduism's seven sacred cities, home to the Mahakaleshwar Temple — one of only two south-facing Jyotirlingas among the twelve, renowned for its pre-dawn Bhasma Aarti ritual.
From Ujjain, the route turns to Maheshwar, where Rani Ahilyabai Holkar's 18th-century fort and ghats still anchor the town's daily rhythm of temple bells, boat rides, and the clacking looms of Maheshwari saree weavers — a tradition unbroken since the 5th century.
The circuit concludes at Omkareshwar, a temple set on an island in the Narmada shaped like the sacred Om symbol, before returning to Indore — Madhya Pradesh's largest city and its unofficial food capital — for departure.

On arrival at Indore Airport, meet our representative and drive to Ujjain (approximately 55 km, ~1 hour) — one of Hinduism's seven sacred Moksha-puris and host city of the Kumbh Mela once every twelve years. On arrival, check in to your hotel. In the afternoon, visit Ram Ghat on the banks of the Shipra River, Kal Bhairav Temple — known for its distinctive tradition of liquor offerings — and Harsiddhi Temple, one of the 18 Shakti Peethas of the Goddess.
Early morning, visit the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga for darshan — uniquely south-facing among all twelve Jyotirlingas. Those wishing to attend the renowned pre-dawn Bhasma Aarti (4:00-6:00 AM) should arrange advance online booking, which we can assist with. After breakfast, check out and drive to Maheshwar (approximately 150 km, ~3.5 hours). On arrival, check in to your hotel. In the evening, walk down to the Narmada Ghat beside Ahilya Fort — one of Maheshwar's most photographed views, especially at sunset.
After breakfast, explore Maheshwar's Ahilya Fort — the 18th-century riverside stronghold built by the Holkar queen Rani Ahilyabai, now housing a life-size statue of the queen alongside temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. Take a boat ride on the Narmada past the fort's reflection, and browse the Maheshwari saree weaving centres, a handloom tradition unbroken since the 5th century. After lunch, check out and drive to Omkareshwar (approximately 80 km, ~2 hours). On arrival, check in to your hotel and visit the Omkareshwar Temple for evening darshan.
Morning darshan at Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, set on Mandhata Island in the Narmada River, whose distinctive shape resembles the sacred Om symbol. Visit the nearby Mamleshwar Temple, the second Shiva shrine within the same complex. If time allows, a short boat ride on the Narmada offers a fine view of the island temple. After breakfast, check out and drive to Indore (approximately 80 km, ~2 hours). On arrival, check in to your hotel, with the afternoon free to explore Rajwada Palace and Sarafa Bazaar, Indore's famous night food street.
A relaxed final morning in Indore — perhaps a last visit to Lal Bagh Palace, if time allows. Check out and transfer to Indore Airport for your onward flight. Tour concludes.
