A comprehensive 14-day journey across South India's richest concentration of temple architecture, colonial heritage, and coastal scenery — beginning in Chennai and concluding on Kerala's shores at Thiruvananthapuram, by way of Tirupati, the UNESCO sites of Mahabalipuram, the temple city of Kanchipuram, Pondicherry's French quarter, the Chola heartland of Thanjavur and Trichy, Madurai's Meenakshi Amman Temple, and the sacred shore at Rameshwaram.
The first week traces a Tamil Nadu temple and heritage arc — Chennai's city sights, a day trip to Tirupati's Tirumala Venkateshwara Temple, the rock-cut UNESCO monuments at Mahabalipuram, Kanchipuram's four major temples, the Arunachalesvara Temple at Tiruvannamalai (one of India's largest temple complexes), and two days in Pondicherry, the former French colonial enclave, with its Auroville ashram and seaside promenade.
The second week moves through the Chola dynasty's architectural legacy — Chidambaram's Nataraja Temple, Kumbakonam's Adi Kumbeswarar Temple, the UNESCO-listed Brihadisvara Temple at Thanjavur, and Trichy's island-set Ranganathaswamy Temple — before two days in Madurai for the magnificent Meenakshi Amman Temple, and on to Rameshwaram, the eighth Jyotirlinga and a site of deep Ramayana significance.
The tour's final days turn toward Kerala — Kanyakumari at India's southernmost tip, where three seas meet, and two days at Kovalam's beaches near Thiruvananthapuram, bringing this temple-focused grand circuit to a relaxed, coastal close.

After breakfast, enjoy a city tour of Chennai — Kapaleeshwar Temple and Parthasarathy Temple, Fort St. George church, Dakshinachitra Museum, Elliot's Beach, Ashtalakshmi Temple, the National Art Gallery and Museum, Vivekananda House, and the famous Marina Beach. Return to your hotel in the evening.
After breakfast, drive to Tirupati — located in Andhra Pradesh, one of the most important pilgrimage centres in India, its main attraction being the Temple of Lord Venkateshwara on the Tirumala Hills. On arrival, proceed for darshan of Lord Balaji. After darshan, visit Sri Kalahasti Temple, Sri Govindarajaswami Temple, the Kondandarama Temple, the Parashurameshwara Temple, and the ISKCON Temple (time permitting). In the evening, drive back to Chennai for an overnight stay.
Breakfast at the hotel, followed by checkout and drive to Mahabalipuram — well known for its magnificent architecture and sculpture. On arrival, visit the rock-cut Shore Temple, built by the Pallava rulers; the Pancha Ratha rock temples, built in the shape of pagodas; Arjuna's Penance; and Mahabalipuram Beach. In the afternoon, continue the drive to Kanchipuram. On arrival, check in to your hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel, followed by a sightseeing tour of Kanchipuram — Sri Kamakshi Temple, Ekambareswarar Temple, Kailasanatha Temple, and Varadharaja Perumal Temple. In the afternoon, check out and drive to Tiruvannamalai. En route, stop at Vellore and visit the famous Golden Temple and Vellore Fort. Continue the drive to Tiruvannamalai. On arrival, check in to your hotel.
After breakfast, check out from your hotel and visit Sri Arunachalesvara Temple, also known as Annamalaiyar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva — one of the largest temple complexes in India, with four gopurams (gateway towers), numerous shrines, and a thousand-pillared hall. Later in the afternoon, drive to Pondicherry — the 'French Riviera of the East'. On arrival, check in to your hotel for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Pondicherry — Auroville Ashram, the epitome of community living; the golden-sand Paradise Beach; the seaside promenade; the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus; Sri Manakula Vinayagar Temple, dedicated to Lord Ganesha; Aurobindo Ashram; and the French War Memorial, built in memory of soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War. In the evening, enjoy a rickshaw ride through the French colonial quarter.
After breakfast, check out and drive to Thanjavur. En route, visit Sri Natraj Temple at Chidambaram, dedicated to Shiva as Lord of Dance, built in the 10th century during the Chola dynasty. Later, stop at Kumbakonam and visit the Adi Kumbeswarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, built in the 9th century by Chola rulers with later expansions by the Vijayanagar rulers in the 16th century. Continue the drive to Thanjavur. On arrival, check in to your hotel.
After breakfast, check out from your hotel and visit the Brihadisvara Temple, built by the Chola rulers in the 11th century, with Lord Shiva as the prime deity — a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also visit the Thanjavur Maratha Palace and Schwartz Church. Later, drive to Madurai, stopping at Trichy (Tiruchirappalli) to visit the Ranganathaswamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu and located on an island at Srirangam, along with the Rock Fort Temple and Jambukeswarar Temple. Continue to Madurai; on arrival, check in to your hotel, with the rest of the day free for independent activities.
After breakfast, proceed on a sightseeing tour of Madurai — the oldest city and cultural capital of Tamil Nadu. Visit the Meenakshi Amman Temple, dedicated to Goddess Parvati (also known as Meenakshi) and Lord Shiva; Alagar Koil Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu; Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal; Koodal Azhagar Temple; the Gandhi Museum; and St Mary's Cathedral. Return to your hotel for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, check out from your hotel and drive to Rameshwaram, a coastal town of sweeping sand dunes and deep religious significance. On arrival, check in to your hotel. Visit the Ramanathaswamy Temple — the eighth Jyotirlinga, renowned for its extraordinarily long pillared corridors — and, according to the Ramayana, the site from which Lord Rama is said to have built a bridge to Lanka to rescue Sita. Time permitting, visit Dhanushkodi, the dramatic ghost town at the very tip of the coast.
After breakfast, check out and drive to Kanyakumari, at the very southern tip of mainland India, where the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean are all said to meet. On arrival, check in to your hotel. Visit the Kanyakumari Amman Temple, dedicated to the virgin goddess Devi Kanya, and, time permitting, take a ferry to the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the Thiruvalluvar Statue just offshore. Enjoy the sunset over the meeting point of the three seas — one of the most photographed views in South India.
After breakfast, check out and drive into Kerala toward Kovalam, near Thiruvananthapuram. En route, visit Padmanabhapuram Palace, one of the finest surviving examples of traditional Kerala wooden palace architecture. On arrival at Kovalam, check in to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day at Kovalam's famous crescent beaches, with the Arabian Sea breaking beneath the iconic lighthouse.
After breakfast, check out from your hotel and proceed to Thiruvananthapuram for a brief visit to the Padmanabhaswamy Temple — one of the wealthiest and most revered Vishnu temples in India. Later, transfer to Thiruvananthapuram Airport for your onward flight home. Tour concludes.

Each day's temple visits are scheduled with practical darshan timings in mind — most South Indian temples close for a few hours at midday and reopen in the late afternoon, so we plan arrivals around these windows. For especially high-traffic sites such as Tirumala and Meenakshi Amman, additional queue time is built into the schedule; Special Entry Darshan tickets, where available, can reduce waiting considerably and we can assist with advance booking.
Several days combine 3-4 hours of driving with multiple temple stops, which makes for a full, active schedule rather than a relaxed beach holiday. Most travellers find the variety — coastal towns, hill temples, French colonial heritage at Pondicherry, and the UNESCO sites at Mahabalipuram — keeps the long circuit engaging throughout. If you would prefer a less intensive pace, we can extend the trip by a few days or remove specific stops; please let us know your priorities when booking.
Ending in Kerala after the Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh circuit allows the tour to conclude with Kerala's distinct coastal and backwater character — Kanyakumari, Padmanabhapuram Palace, and Kovalam Beach — rather than retracing the same route back to Chennai. This also gives you a convenient final flight or onward connection from Thiruvananthapuram's well-connected airport. October to March offers the most comfortable temperatures (15–28°C) for the ghats, boat rides, and temple queues. April–June is hot on the Gangetic plain (up to 42°C); the monsoon (July–September) raises the Ganges considerably, which can affect ghat access in both cities.
The new Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir draws very large crowds, particularly on weekends and during festivals such as Ram Navami and Diwali. We schedule darshan with queue time built into the itinerary; carrying a valid photo ID is recommended, as security screening is in place at the main temple complex.
