Goa's Beaches, Heritage & One of India's Tallest Waterfalls

Six days that add a genuine adventure excursion to the classic Goa beach holiday — a half-day jeep safari to Dudhsagar Falls, a four-tiered, 310-metre waterfall on the Mandovi River that ranks among the tallest in India, set deep within the Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary on the Goa-Karnataka border.

Three nights in North Goa cover the essential beaches (Calangute, Baga, Anjuna), Fort Aguada, and the UNESCO heritage of Old Goa, alongside the Dudhsagar excursion itself — reached via an exhilarating open-jeep ride through the forest, fording several streams en route, before a short walk to the base of the falls for a swim in the plunge pool (subject to season and water flow).

Two nights in South Goa at Colva and Benaulim provide the contrast and unwinding time that rounds out a complete Goa experience — wide, quiet beaches after the adventure and energy of the days before.

Day 03
Dudhsagar Falls Jeep Safari
Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary · Spice Plantation · Waterfall Swim
+

Full-day excursion to Dudhsagar Falls (approximately 60-70 km from North Goa, ~2 hours each way). Drive to the entry point of Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, then transfer into shared open-top jeeps for the thrilling 45-minute off-road ride through dense forest, fording several streams along the way — a genuinely exciting journey in its own right. A short walk from the jeep parking brings you to the base of Dudhsagar Falls — a four-tiered cascade plunging 310 metres down a sheer rock face on the Mandovi River, on the Goa-Karnataka border. Swim in the plunge pool at the base (subject to season and water flow — closed during the heaviest monsoon flow for safety).

On the return, visit a spice plantation for a guided walk through cardamom, pepper, and cashew groves, with a traditional Goan thali lunch. Return to North Goa by evening.

Your questions, answered

The falls themselves are visible year-round, but conditions vary significantly by season. June to January generally offers the fullest, most spectacular flow (especially just after monsoon, July-September, when the water volume is at its peak — though swimming may be restricted during the very heaviest flow for safety reasons). February to May sees reduced water flow as the dry season progresses, though the falls remain a worthwhile sight and swimming is usually possible. The jeep safari itself operates year-round, weather permitting, though heavy monsoon rain can occasionally cause temporary closures.

The jeep ride is bumpy, off-road, and involves fording shallow streams — genuinely good fun for most travellers, but we'd advise some caution for those with back problems, very young children, or pregnant travellers. The vehicles seat passengers in open-air bench rows rather than individual seats. The short walk from the jeep parking area to the waterfall base is on a relatively easy, flat forest path.

November to February is peak season — warm days, cool evenings, calm seas, and every beach shack and water sport operator open for business. March–May is hot but still good for swimming and has fewer crowds. June–September is monsoon — heavy rain, rough seas, and most beach shacks closed, though the Western Ghats and Dudhsagar Falls are at their most spectacular in this period.

North Goa (Calangute, Baga, Candolim, Anjuna, Vagator) is livelier — nightlife, water sports, flea markets, and a younger crowd. South Goa (Colva, Benaulim, Cavelossim, Palolem) is quieter, with wider, less crowded beaches and a more relaxed, upscale resort atmosphere. Many of our itineraries deliberately combine a few nights in each so you experience both sides of Goa rather than choosing just one.
