Five days that combine two completely different sides of Uttarakhand — the colonial ridge-top hill station of Mussoorie, the 'Queen of the Hills', and the twin sacred towns of Haridwar and Rishikesh on the banks of the Ganges as it leaves the Himalaya for the plains.
Mussoorie (2,005m) offers sweeping views over the Doon Valley and, on clear days, the Himalayan snow range. The Mall Road, Camel's Back Road, Kempty Falls, and Gun Hill cable car make for a relaxed two days of hill-station pleasures.
Haridwar — one of the seven holiest cities in Hinduism — sits where the Ganges first reaches the plains after its Himalayan descent. The evening Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri, where hundreds of lamps are floated onto the sacred river amid chanting and bells, is one of the most powerful ritual experiences in India.
Rishikesh, 25 km upstream, is the Yoga Capital of the World — ashrams, the Lakshman Jhula and Ram Jhula suspension bridges, and the option of white-water rafting on the Ganges. The two towns together offer a profound and accessible introduction to the spiritual life of the Ganges.

Depart Delhi early morning for Mussoorie (290 km, ~7 hrs) via Dehradun — the final stretch climbs the ridge through pine and deodar forest. Arrive by evening and check in. Evening walk on Mall Road and Camel's Back Road as the lights of the Doon Valley come on below.
Gun Hill (the second highest point in Mussoorie, reached by cable car) for panoramic views over the Doon Valley and, on clear days, the Himalayan snow range including Bandarpunch (6,316m). Kempty Falls (15 km, a multi-tiered waterfall in a forested gorge) — popular for a dip in the pools below. Afternoon at leisure on Mall Road for Tibetan handicrafts, wood carvings, and the famous Mussoorie 'Char Dukan' cafés.
Drive from Mussoorie to Haridwar (95 km, ~3 hrs), descending from the hills to the sacred plains where the Ganges first emerges from the Himalaya. Check in. Evening: the Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri — one of the most powerful ritual experiences in India. Hundreds of priests perform a synchronised fire ceremony with large flaming lamps as pilgrims float small diyas (oil lamps) onto the river, accompanied by bells, conch shells, and devotional chanting. Optional: Mansa Devi Temple visit by cable car for views over the city and river.
Morning puja at Har Ki Pauri before checkout. Drive to Rishikesh (25 km, ~45 min). Visit Parmarth Niketan and other riverside ashrams — the largest and most welcoming to visitors. Walk across the iconic suspension bridges of Lakshman Jhula and Ram Jhula for panoramic views of the Ganges valley. Explore the temples, riverside cafés, and spiritual bookshops around the Laxman Jhula area. Optional: white-water rafting on the Ganges (Kaudiyala to Rishikesh stretch, India's most popular rafting route). Evening Ganga Aarti on the Rishikesh ghats.
A final morning in Rishikesh — perhaps a yoga or meditation session at your ashram or hotel, or a quiet walk along the Ganges. Drive back to Delhi (240 km, ~5–6 hrs). Tour concludes.

At Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar, it takes place at sunset (typically 6–7 PM depending on the season). Hundreds of priests simultaneously wave large flaming brass lamps in synchronised movements while pilgrims float small diyas (oil lamps) on the river. The combination of fire, bells, conch shells, chanting, and the dark river is genuinely moving regardless of your personal faith. We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes early to find a good viewing position on the ghats.
Yes — Rishikesh offers rafting grades from gentle Grade 1-2 (suitable for families and complete beginners) up to more technical Grade 3-4 stretches for experienced rafters. All licensed operators provide certified guides, life jackets, and helmets. The most popular beginner-friendly stretch runs from Shivpuri to Rishikesh (about 16 km, 2-3 hours).
