An Unhurried Pace at Both of India's Most Sacred Cities

A 7-day version of our Varanasi-Chitrakoot-Prayagraj-Ayodhya circuit, rebalanced to give two full nights at each of the two anchor cities — Varanasi and Ayodhya — rather than rushing through either on a single overnight, while still weaving in Chitrakoot and the Triveni Sangam at Prayagraj between them.

The additional night in Varanasi allows the dawn boat ride, the old city's temples, and the Sarnath excursion to unfold across two full days rather than a single compressed one, with more breathing room for the city's famously intense, atmospheric pace.

The route through Chitrakoot and Prayagraj remains the same efficient single-night bridge between the two anchor cities, with the Triveni Sangam boat ride and a morning of Prayagraj sightseeing before continuing to Ayodhya.

The additional night in Ayodhya likewise allows a calmer, two-day approach to the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir and the city's older shrines — particularly valuable given the temple's current pilgrim volumes — without needing to compress everything into a single intensive day before departure.

What makes this journey special

1.Two full days in Varanasi — dawn boat ride, old city temples, and the Sarnath excursion.
2.Witness the evening Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat across two consecutive evenings.
3.Pass through Chitrakoot, associated with Lord Rama's forest exile in the Ramayana.
4.Visit the Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Sarasvati.
5.Two full days in Ayodhya — an unhurried approach to the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir.
6.Visit Hanuman Garhi and Kanak Bhawan without the time pressure of a single-day visit.
7.Witness the evening aarti on the Saryu River at Ram ki Paidi, with time to enjoy it twice.
8.A genuinely balanced itinerary giving equal weight to both of Uttar Pradesh's holiest cities.

Day 02
Varanasi — Dawn Boat Ride & Old City Temples
Sunrise boat ride · Kashi Vishwanath · Old city lanes
+

Dawn boat ride along the ghats — pilgrims performing ritual bathing, sadhus in meditation, and the city waking, widely considered Varanasi's signature experience. Visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Shiva. Spend the rest of the morning and afternoon exploring the old city's narrow lanes, smaller shrines, and traditional silk weaving workshops at a genuinely relaxed pace. Evening: a second visit to the ghats, perhaps simply to sit and watch the river.

Return to Varanasi for a relaxed afternoon — with the extra night available in this version, there's no need to rush; spend the time at leisure, shopping for Banarasi silk, or simply absorbing the city's atmosphere at your own pace.

Continue the drive to Prayagraj. On arrival, check in to your hotel, and in the afternoon take a boat ride to the Triveni Sangam — the sacred confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Sarasvati rivers.

Your questions, answered

This itinerary adds one extra night each at Varanasi and Ayodhya compared to our standard 5-night version — extending the overall trip from 6 to 7 days. The additional time is used to spread sightseeing more comfortably across two days at each city rather than compressing everything into a single intensive day, and gives more flexibility around the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir's queue times.

If your schedule allows it, yes — particularly for Ayodhya, where current pilgrim volumes at the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir can make a single-day visit feel rushed. Varanasi also rewards unhurried time, as much of its appeal lies in simply absorbing the ghats' atmosphere rather than checking off a list of sights. If a 6-day trip suits your schedule better, our shorter version covers the same destinations efficiently.

October to March offers the most comfortable temperatures (15–28°C) for the ghats, boat rides, and temple queues. April–June is hot on the Gangetic plain (up to 42°C); the monsoon (July–September) raises the Ganges considerably, which can affect ghat access in both cities.

The new Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir draws very large crowds, particularly on weekends and during festivals such as Ram Navami and Diwali. We schedule darshan with queue time built into the itinerary; carrying a valid photo ID is recommended, as security screening is in place at the main temple complex.

Absolutely. Every Discover India tour is fully private and built around your preferences. We can adjust the duration, add Lucknow, or swap Chitrakoot for additional time in Prayagraj. Submit an enquiry and our specialists will tailor it for you at no obligation.

Cancellations 60+ days before departure receive a full refund minus a small admin fee. 30–59 days: 75% refund. 15–29 days: 50% refund. Under 15 days: no refund. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance.
