From the Ganges' Sacred Ghats to the Pink City and the Mughal Capital

This 11-day journey traces a sweep through India's spiritual, artistic, and architectural high points — from the ancient riverside city of Varanasi, through the UNESCO temple complexes of Khajuraho and the quietly extraordinary heritage town of Orchha, to the Taj Mahal, Jaipur's royal forts, and Delhi's layered Mughal and colonial history.

A note on this itinerary: earlier route descriptions referenced Orchha's palaces and Betwa riverside cenotaphs as part of this journey, but omitted any night allocation for the town, leaving its mention disconnected from the actual day-by-day plan. We've corrected this by inserting a proper overnight in Orchha between Khajuraho and Agra — both because it's genuinely worth visiting in its own right, and because the original 9-night route simply didn't add up against the full itinerary it described.

The tour opens in Varanasi with two nights for the essential experiences — a dawn boat ride along the ghats and the evening Ganga Aarti fire ceremony at Dashashwamedh Ghat. From there, a flight to Khajuraho brings two days exploring its extraordinarily carved 10th-11th century temples, before the route turns to Orchha — a peaceful riverside town of Bundela palaces and monumental cenotaphs, considerably less visited than its more famous neighbours.

The journey continues to Agra for the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, then Jaipur's Amber Fort, City Palace, and Hawa Mahal, concluding with two days in Delhi covering the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and Qutub Minar — a comprehensive arc through some of India's most significant heritage in a single, well-paced circuit.

Your questions, answered

Yes. The original version of this itinerary described Orchha's palaces and Betwa riverside setting in its overview text, and even referred to a '12-day tour' — but the actual night-by-night route (Varanasi 2N–Khajuraho 2N–Agra 1N–Jaipur 2N–Delhi 2N) added up to only 9 nights and never allocated any time to Orchha at all. We've corrected this by properly inserting a night in Orchha between Khajuraho and Agra, bringing the honest total to 10 nights / 11 days — a small but genuine addition that makes the itinerary deliver on what it describes.

The rail and road connections between Varanasi and Khajuraho are both lengthy (10+ hours), with limited direct train services. A roughly one-hour flight is by far the most time-efficient way to make this connection, preserving more time for sightseeing rather than transit. We book this flight as part of the package.

Yes — if your schedule is tighter, we can remove Orchha (saving 1 day) or compress Khajuraho to a single night (saving 1 day) while keeping the rest of the circuit intact. Enquire for a tailored shorter version.

October to March is ideal — comfortable temperatures (15–28°C), clear skies, and the best conditions for sightseeing, fort treks, and wildlife safaris. April–June brings intense heat (up to 45°C); July–September is monsoon, with some relief from the heat but reduced safari access in the tiger reserves.

Absolutely. Every Discover India tour is fully private and built around your preferences. We can adjust the duration, swap destinations, change hotel categories, or add extensions. Submit an enquiry and our specialists will redesign the itinerary for you at no obligation.

We include carefully selected 4-star and 5-star hotels throughout — heritage havelis, palace hotels, desert camps, and well-appointed properties near the wildlife reserves, all personally vetted by our team. Upgrades to palace hotels or luxury tented camps are available on request.

Most nationalities can apply for an Indian e-Visa online at indianvisaonline.gov.in. Processing typically takes 3–5 business days and costs $25–$80 USD depending on your nationality. Apply at least 2 weeks before travel.

Cancellations 60+ days before departure receive a full refund minus a small admin fee. 30–59 days: 75% refund. 15–29 days: 50% refund. Under 15 days: no refund. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance.
